Globe valve = linear motion valve designed for throttling and flow regulation. Disc moves perpendicular to seat via handwheel/actuator. Tortuous S-shaped flow path enables precise flow control. Higher pressure drop than gate/ball valves but superior throttling capability. Types: T-pattern (standard), Y-pattern (lower pressure drop), angle, needle (fine control), bellows sealed (zero emissions). Materials: WCB, SS316, SS304, alloy steel, duplex. How Does a Globe Valve Work?

Handwheel Turns

Rotating the handwheel moves the stem up or down. The disc is attached to the stem and moves perpendicular to the flow.

Flow Path

Fluid enters, changes direction through the S-shaped body, passes between disc and seat, then exits. This tortuous path creates controlled restriction.

Throttling

Partially opening the valve creates a precise restriction. The gap between disc and seat controls flow rate – smaller gap = less flow.

Shut-Off

Fully closing presses the disc against the seat ring. Metal-to-metal or soft seat provides tight shut-off. Graphite packing seals the stem.
