In a fast-spreading industrial fire, guessing which underground valves are open or closed is highly dangerous. Q What is the purpose of a Post Indicator Valve (PIV)?

A PIV is used to isolate underground fire protection water mains. It has a high above-ground indicator post so fire officers and inspectors can instantly tell if the underground valve is open or closed without digging or guessing.

Q How do you adjust the bury depth?

The telescopic barrel has locking set screws. During installation, the extension rod and outer barrel can be cut or telescoped to match the exact soil depth before securing.

Q Are PIV assemblies lockable?

Yes, they feature a padlock eye cast into the handle assembly to prevent unauthorized opening or closing, complying with NFPA fire safety standards.
