What are API 6A Wellhead Valves?

API 6A (ISO 10423) is the specification for wellhead and Christmas tree equipment used in petroleum and natural gas industries. API 6A valves operate under extreme conditions — high pressures up to 20,000 PSI (1380 bar), temperatures from -60°C to +250°C, and corrosive environments containing H2S and CO2. What is PSL in API 6A and which level do I need?
PSL (Product Specification Level) defines the quality and traceability requirements. PSL 1 is basic (functional testing). PSL 2 adds material traceability and NDE. PSL 3 adds full material verification, hardness testing, and enhanced NDE. PSL 3G adds gas-tight seat test. PSL 4 is the highest level with full material qualification, performance testing, and gas-tight verification. Most production applications require PSL 3 or 3G.
What is the difference between slab gate and expanding gate valves?
A slab gate valve has a single flat gate (slab) that slides between two seat rings. Simple design, reliable, lower cost. An expanding gate uses two gate halves that spread apart (expand) when fully open, creating a metal-to-metal seal with both upstream and downstream seats. Expanding gates provide better double block & bleed isolation but are more complex and expensive.

All our API 6A valves for sour service are manufactured per NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 with controlled hardness (HRC ≤22 for carbon/low-alloy steel), SSC-resistant materials, and full NACE compliance documentation.
