API 600 OS&Y rising stem — Class 150 to 600
The API 600 WCB gate valve remains the default block valve on carbon-steel pipe racks. OS&Y construction places the stem threads outside the packing chamber so operators can see stem travel and grease the threads without process contamination. Flexible wedges accommodate minor seat misalignment from pipe loads and thermal cycling; solid wedges and parallel-slide gates are selected for certain steam mains and high differential shut-off duties.
Class 150 covers a large share of utility and low-pressure process isolation. Class 300 and Class 600 are specified for higher design pressures in refining, power and steam distribution. Butt-weld ends to ASME B16.25 are available when the piping class prefers welded joints over flanges.

Trim selection for WCB gate valves
Standard trim with 13Cr (AISI 410) seating surfaces suits many hydrocarbon and steam services. SS304 or SS316 trim is chosen for cleaner fluids or mild corrosion. Stellite (CoCr) hard facing is quoted where erosion, flashing condensate or high seat cycles are expected. Always state the fluid, temperature and whether the valve is normally open or normally closed so trim recommendations are correct.
