What is the difference between Monel 400 and Monel K500?
Monel 400 is a solid-solution alloy with excellent corrosion resistance to seawater and acids. Monel K500 is an age-hardenable version with higher strength (yield ~100 ksi vs ~35 ksi) and hardness, making it ideal for valve stems, fasteners, and high-pressure applications.
Why choose Monel valves over stainless steel for seawater?
Monel 400 has virtually zero corrosion rate in flowing seawater (< 0.025 mm/year), while SS316 can suffer pitting and crevice corrosion at elevated temperatures. For critical seawater systems, Monel provides significantly longer service life.
Can Monel valves handle hydrofluoric acid (HF)?
Yes. Monel 400 is the standard material for HF alkylation unit valves in oil refineries. It maintains excellent resistance to HF at all concentrations and temperatures up to the boiling point.
What certifications do your Monel valves carry?
