Why Super Duplex 2507?

Super Duplex 2507 (UNS S32750) delivers the highest combination of strength and corrosion resistance in the duplex family. With a PREN >40, it resists pitting in seawater up to 80°C — far beyond where Duplex 2205 and 6Mo austenitic grades fail. Yield strength exceeds 550 MPa (2.5x SS316L), enabling compact valve designs that save weight on offshore platforms where every kilogram counts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Super Duplex 2507 better than Hastelloy C276 for seawater?
For standard seawater service below 80°C, Super Duplex 2507 offers equivalent corrosion resistance at 60-70% of the cost of Hastelloy C276. However, for hot concentrated brines, chlorinated seawater above 80°C, or mixed acid environments, Hastelloy C276 is superior. The choice depends on your specific temperature, chloride concentration, and pH.
What is PREN and why does it matter?
PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) = %Cr + 3.3(%Mo) + 16(%N). It predicts resistance to pitting corrosion in chloride environments. Super Duplex 2507 has PREN > 40 (vs 24 for SS316 and 35 for Duplex 2205), meaning significantly higher resistance to pitting, especially in warm seawater.
Can Super Duplex be welded without losing corrosion resistance?
Yes, with proper procedures. Welding must use matching Super Duplex filler (AWS E2509/ER2509), controlled heat input (0.5-2.5 kJ/mm), and interpass temperature below 150°C. Post-weld ferrite content must be 35-65%. Our valves are welded by ASME IX qualified welders with PQR-proven procedures.
Do you supply Super Duplex valves per NORSOK?
Yes. We manufacture per NORSOK M-630 (material qualification), M-001 (materials selection), and L-001 (piping system design). All Super Duplex valves include ASTM A923 testing, ferritoscope readings, impact testing at -46°C, and full EN 10204 3.1 documentation.
