What materials are used for high-temperature steam valves?
For main steam service (up to 593°C), WC6 (1.25Cr-0.5Mo) and WC9 (2.25Cr-1Mo) are standard body materials, with Stellite 6 hard-facing on seats and disc faces for erosion resistance. For superheated steam above 565°C, C12A (9Cr-1Mo-V) may be specified. Trim materials include 13Cr (ASTM A182 F6a), SS316, and Stellite overlays. Bolting is typically ASTM A193 B16 with A194 Grade 4/7 nuts for elevated temperature service.
