General-purpose austenitic stainless steel. Good corrosion resistance for mild chemicals, water, and food processing.

  • Water treatment
  • Food & beverage
  • HVAC systems
  • General chemical service

SS316 / CF8M

Molybdenum-enhanced for superior resistance to chlorides, acids, and pitting. The workhorse of chemical and marine industries.

  • Chemical processing
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Marine & offshore
  • Pulp & paper

SS316L / CF3M

Low-carbon variant prevents intergranular corrosion in welded assemblies. Mandatory for pharma and biotech per ASME BPE.

  • Pharmaceutical GMP
  • Biotech processing
  • Cryogenic service
  • High-purity water

Industry Applications

Chemical & Petrochemical

Acids, alkalis, solvents, and corrosive process streams. SS316/CF8M is the default material for chemical valve service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SS304 and SS316 valves?
SS316 contains 2-3% molybdenum which provides superior resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion. SS304 is suitable for general-purpose applications, while SS316 is required for chemical, marine, and chloride-bearing environments. For seawater or hydrochloric acid, super austenitic grades like 254 SMO or Alloy 20 are recommended.
What does CF8M mean on a valve body?
CF8M is the ASTM A351 cast equivalent of wrought SS316 (UNS S31600). The "C" indicates corrosion-resistant, "F" indicates iron-based alloy, "8" is the nominal chromium percentage divided by a factor, and "M" indicates molybdenum content. CF8M is the most widely specified stainless steel casting grade for valves.
Can stainless steel valves be used for seawater?
Standard SS316 has limited resistance to seawater due to chloride-induced pitting above 20°C. For continuous seawater service, we recommend either NAB C95800 (Nickel Aluminium Bronze) or super duplex stainless steel (UNS S32750). For intermittent seawater exposure, SS316 with NORSOK-compliant PREN > 40 may suffice.
Do you supply SS valves with 3.1 material certificates?
Yes. All our stainless steel valves are supplied with EN 10204 Type 3.1 Mill Test Reports (MTR) as standard. We also provide PMI (Positive Material Identification) test reports and can arrange third-party inspection (TPI) through agencies like Lloyd's, Bureau Veritas, TUV, or SGS.
What surface finish is available for pharmaceutical SS valves?
We supply stainless steel valves with internal surface finishes from Ra 0.8 μm (standard industrial) down to Ra 0.4 μm or Ra 0.25 μm for pharmaceutical and biotech applications. Electropolished finishes per ASME BPE are available on request for GMP-compliant installations.
Are your SS valves suitable for cryogenic service?
Yes. Austenitic stainless steels (SS304, SS316, SS316L) maintain excellent toughness at cryogenic temperatures down to -196°C. We supply cryogenic-rated stainless steel valves with extended bonnets, tested to BS 6364 / MSS SP-134, for LNG, liquid nitrogen, and liquid oxygen applications.
