PTFE Lined Butterfly Valve — Manufacturer India

Full PTFE (Teflon) lined butterfly valve with ductile iron ASTM A395 body and disc. Suitable for aggressive acids, alkalis, and solvents. Equivalent to Xomox/Tuflin XLD11-X type. Sizes 2–24 inch, ANSI Class 150.

The PTFE lined butterfly valve is the preferred choice for corrosive chemical service where rubber-seated valves are unsuitable. The ductile iron body (ASTM A395) is fully lined with moulded virgin PTFE on all wetted surfaces — including the body bore, disc faces, and stem seal — so no fluid contacts the metal substrate. The PTFE lining acts simultaneously as the corrosion barrier and the integral resilient seat, eliminating the need for a separate elastomeric liner. This design is functionally equivalent to the Xomox/Tuflin XLD11-X and Crane Resistoflex designs. The valve is supplied with stainless steel spacer rings to accommodate the uniform 72mm face-to-face dimension across all sizes.

Chemical Compatibility

PTFE is chemically resistant to virtually all industrial acids, alkalis, and solvents, including: sulphuric acid (all concentrations), hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, hydrofluoric acid (dilute), caustic soda (NaOH), chlorine (wet), chlorinated solvents, organic acids, and most oxidising agents. PTFE is not recommended for molten alkali metals, fluorine gas, or certain fluorinated compounds at elevated temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the advantages of a PTFE lined butterfly valve over a rubber-seated type?

PTFE is chemically inert to almost all acids, alkalis, solvents, and oxidising agents. A rubber-seated (EPDM/NBR) butterfly valve cannot handle concentrated sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, or chlorine. PTFE also has a lower coefficient of friction than rubber, resulting in lower operating torque and longer seat life. The upper service temperature for PTFE is approximately +260°C, compared to +130°C for EPDM.

What is the temperature limit for a PTFE lined butterfly valve?

Virgin PTFE lining is rated to +260°C continuous service. However, above +200°C PTFE softens and begins to creep under bolt load, which can compromise the seal. For sustained service above +180°C, filled PTFE (glass-filled or carbon-filled) or a metal-seated triple-offset butterfly valve is recommended. The lower temperature limit is approximately -50°C.

How is the 72mm face-to-face dimension handled when retrofitting into a standard ANSI 150 wafer space?

The PTFE lined butterfly valve has a uniform 72mm face-to-face dimension across all sizes, which is thicker than a standard wafer butterfly valve. Stainless steel spacer rings (supplied with the valve) are used between the valve flanges and the pipe flanges to achieve the correct bolt length. The spacers are included in the supply and do not affect the pressure rating or tightness of the joint.
