UL/FM OS&Y Gate Valve — Fire Protection

UL Listed (UL 262) and FM Approved (FM 1120) outside stem and yoke (OS&Y) resilient-wedge gate valve for fire sprinkler, standpipe, and underground fire-main systems per NFPA 13, 14, and 24.

The OS&Y rising-stem gate valve is the most widely specified isolation valve in fire-protection systems because the stem position visually indicates open or closed status at a glance. This valve carries dual UL 262 and FM 1120 certification and is suitable for use in fire sprinkler risers, underground fire mains, hydrant laterals, and pump bypass lines per NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 24, and AWWA C515. The ductile iron body is fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) coated internally and externally for corrosion protection in buried and wet-system applications. The EPDM-encapsulated resilient wedge provides positive bubble-tight shut-off with low operating torque. A supervisory tamper switch is available as a factory option for wiring to the fire alarm control panel.

Features & Compliance

Applications

OS&Y gate valves are required at the inlet to each sprinkler system riser, at pump discharge and suction isolation points, on underground fire-main branch connections, and wherever positive visual confirmation of valve position is mandated by NFPA or the authority having jurisdiction. Our UL/FM OS&Y gate valve is supplied to fire-protection contractors, MEP consultants, and EPC companies across India, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a UL Listed and FM Approved gate valve?

UL Listed (UL 262) means the valve has been tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories to meet fire-protection performance requirements. FM Approved (FM 1120) is certification by FM Global (Factory Mutual). Many projects in the Gulf and India require both marks simultaneously; our OS&Y gate valve carries both UL 262 and FM 1120 certifications.

Is a tamper switch mandatory on an OS&Y gate valve in a fire system?

NFPA 13 and NFPA 14 require that all control valves in fire sprinkler and standpipe systems be supervised. An OS&Y gate valve can be supervised visually (the stem position is visible) or with an electromechanical tamper switch wired to the fire alarm panel. Most insurance underwriters and AHJs require the electronic tamper switch for automatic supervision.

What pressure rating does this gate valve carry?

The UL/FM OS&Y gate valve is rated 300 psi (20.7 bar) working pressure at 66°C (150°F) water, meeting the maximum working pressure requirements of NFPA 13 and AWWA C515. Flanged ends conform to ANSI 150 drilling pattern.
