Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between gunmetal and bronze valves?
Gunmetal is a specific type of bronze alloy containing copper, tin, and zinc (and sometimes lead). In Indian standards, gunmetal refers to IS 318 LTB-2 grade. "Bronze" is a broader term covering tin bronze, leaded bronze, aluminium bronze, phosphor bronze, and nickel aluminium bronze. All gunmetal valves are bronze valves, but not all bronze valves are gunmetal.
Are bronze valves suitable for seawater?
Standard tin bronze (gunmetal) has moderate seawater resistance and is suitable for intermittent seawater exposure. For continuous seawater service—especially at elevated temperatures or high velocities—Nickel Aluminium Bronze (NAB C95800) is the recommended choice. NAB offers superior resistance to dealloying, biofouling, and erosion-corrosion in seawater environments.
Can bronze valves be used in fire protection systems?
Yes. Bronze valves with UL-FM listing are widely used in fire sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, and fire pump installations. ASTM B62 (C83600) is the standard body material for UL-FM listed bronze fire protection valves. These valves must carry the UL label and FM diamond mark for code-compliant installations.
What is the maximum temperature for bronze valves?
Standard gunmetal and tin bronze valves are rated for continuous service up to 232-260°C depending on the alloy and pressure class. NAB C95800 can handle up to 285°C. Above these temperatures, carbon steel or alloy steel valves should be specified. Always check the ASME B16.34 or manufacturer pressure-temperature tables for the specific grade.
Do you export bronze valves to the Middle East?
Yes. We export bronze valves to the entire Middle East region, including UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain. Our major applications are marine/offshore seawater systems (NAB C95800), fire protection systems (UL-FM listed), HVAC/chiller installations, and desalination plant utility piping. All exports include SABER certification for Saudi Arabia.
