Metal Seated Valves
Hard-faced, metal-to-metal seated valves for high-temperature, abrasive, erosive, and fire-critical service where soft-seated valves cannot survive.
When temperatures, abrasion, or fire-safety demands exceed the limits of PTFE or elastomer seats, metal-seated valves provide durable, tight shut-off. Supreme Valves supplies ball, butterfly, and gate valves with hard-faced metal seats — Stellite 6, tungsten carbide, and chromium-carbide overlays — that withstand catalyst, slurry, ash, molten media, and high-temperature steam while maintaining ISO 5208 Rate A/B tightness.
Metal-Seated Valve Options
Hardfacing & Performance
- Stellite 6: cobalt-chromium overlay for high-temperature wear and galling resistance
- Tungsten carbide (HVOF): extreme abrasion resistance for slurry and catalyst service
- Chromium carbide: cost-effective hardfacing for erosive and high-temperature duty
- Temperature capability to +550°C and beyond depending on body alloy (WCB, WC6, WC9, F91)
- Fire-safe by design (metal seat) and certifiable to API 607 / API 6FA
- Tightness to ISO 5208 Rate A (zero) on triple-offset and lapped metal seats
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a metal-seated valve?
A metal-seated valve uses a hard metal-to-metal sealing interface (often hardfaced with Stellite, tungsten carbide, or chromium carbide) instead of a soft PTFE or elastomer seat, allowing it to operate at high temperatures and in abrasive or erosive service while resisting wear.
When are metal seats required instead of soft seats?
Metal seats are required above the temperature limit of PTFE/elastomers (~200–260°C), in abrasive or erosive media (slurry, catalyst, ash, coke), and where inherent fire-safety and long service life are essential.
Can metal-seated valves achieve bubble-tight shut-off?
Yes. Precision-lapped and hardfaced metal seats — particularly on triple-offset butterfly valves — achieve ISO 5208 Rate A (zero leakage) bi-directionally, and other patterns achieve Rate B/C as specified.
What hardfacing options do you offer?
We offer Stellite 6 overlay, HVOF tungsten carbide, and chromium-carbide coatings on balls, discs, wedges, and seats, matched to the body alloy and service temperature.
