Frequently Asked Questions
What is a 5/2 double solenoid valve?
A 5/2 valve has 5 ports (supply, two cylinder ports, two exhausts) and 2 positions. The double solenoid version has two coils - one shifts the spool to position A, the other shifts it to position B. It stays in the last position when both coils are de-energized.
When should I choose double solenoid over single solenoid?
Choose double solenoid when you need the valve to maintain its last position during a power failure (bistable/memory function). Also use double solenoid when you need to actively shift in both directions, such as with double-acting cylinders.
What happens to a double solenoid valve when power is lost?
The valve stays in its last position. This is called a 'bistable' or 'memory' function. If you need the valve to return to home on power loss for safety, choose a single solenoid with spring return instead.
