Frequently Asked Questions
What are the three center position options?
Center Closed (all ports blocked) holds the cylinder in position. Center Open (cylinder ports to exhaust) allows the cylinder to float. Pressure Center (both cylinder ports to pressure) provides dynamic braking. The correct choice depends on your safety and operational requirements.
When do I need a 5/3 valve instead of 5/2?
Use a 5/3 valve when you need to stop a double-acting cylinder at intermediate positions. A 5/2 valve cannot stop mid-stroke because it always connects one cylinder port to pressure and the other to exhaust.
Can the center position hold a vertical load?
Center Closed can hold a load in position under normal conditions, but it is not a safety lock. For vertical load holding, a separate mechanical lock or pilot-operated check valve should be used in addition to the 5/3 valve.
