Frequently Asked Questions
What does FRL mean in pneumatic systems?
FRL stands for Filter-Regulator-Lubricator, the three essential components of air preparation. The filter removes water, oil, and debris; the regulator maintains consistent downstream pressure; and the lubricator adds oil mist to lubricate pneumatic components. Together they protect equipment and ensure reliable operation.
Why is air preparation important?
Compressed air contains water, oil, and debris from the compressor which can cause premature wear, corrosion, and failure of pneumatic equipment. Proper air preparation extends component life, maintains consistent performance, and reduces maintenance costs. We recommend 5-micron filtration as a minimum.
What filtration levels are available?
Standard filtration is 5 microns for general industrial use. For precision instrumentation, 0.01 micron coalescing filters remove sub-micron oil and water aerosols. For food and medical applications, we offer sterile filter elements and stainless steel housings.
Can I get modular (whisper) style FRL units?
Yes, modular (or stacking) FRL units use a common air manifold allowing multiple units to be connected without piping. This saves space, simplifies installation, and allows easy reconfiguration. All our modular units are interchangeable with major brands like SMC, Festo, and Parker.
