Frequently Asked Questions
What is an external pilot operated valve?
Instead of an electrical solenoid shifting the spool, an external pilot operated valve uses a separate compressed air signal to shift the main valve spool. This is useful when electricity is not available or when the main circuit pressure is too low for internal piloting.
What pilot pressure is required?
The DCC Series external pilot valves require a pilot pressure of 2 to 10 bar. The pilot air should be clean, dry, and lubricated. A separate FRL unit on the pilot line is recommended for reliable operation.
Are these suitable for hazardous areas?
Yes, because there is no electrical component, external pilot valves are intrinsically safe and do not require ATEX certification for the valve itself. However, the device generating the pilot signal (such as a pilot solenoid in a safe area) must be appropriately certified.
