Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between pilot operated and direct acting solenoid valves?

Pilot operated solenoid valves require a minimum differential pressure (typically 0.3-1 bar) across the valve to function properly. The solenoid controls a pilot passage which then utilizes line pressure to move the main diaphragm or piston. This allows for larger flow capacities with smaller solenoids. Direct acting valves have no minimum pressure requirement and can operate from full vacuum.

What are the common applications for pilot operated solenoid valves?

Pilot operated solenoid valves are widely used in water supply systems, air compreeson systems, irrigation, car wash systems, and light oil applications. They are particularly cost-effective for larger pipe sizes where direct acting valves would require prohibitively large solenoids. The lower power consumption also makes them ideal for continuous duty applications.

What seal materials are available for different media?

Common seal materials include NBR (Buna-N) for petroleum oils and greases, EPDM for hot water and steam, FKM/Viton for chemicals and high-temperature oils, and PTFE for aggressive chemicals. Our engineering team can recommend the optimal seal material based on your specific media, temperature, and pressure conditions.

Can these valves be used for exhaust or vacuum service?

Standard pilot operated valves require a minimum pressure to function. For vacuum applications, we recommend our direct acting solenoid valves which can operate from full vacuum to their rated pressure. For specific vacuum requirements, consult our engineering team for custom solutions.
