Double Beat Valves — The Workhorse of Sugar Mills

Double beat (double seat) valves are the primary isolation and regulation valve for juice lines in Indian sugar mills. Unlike a globe valve with a single seat, the double beat design has two seating surfaces — the disc closes against both simultaneously. This balanced design reduces operating torque significantly, allows precise throttling, and handles the heat cycling common in juice heating stations.

IBR Compliance for Steam Valves

Any valve on a steam line above 1 kg/cm² (approximately 15 PSI) in India requires IBR (Indian Boiler Regulations) approval under The Boilers Act 1923. Supreme Valves supplies IBR-approved globe valves (Class 800 and Class 1500 forged, flanged Class 300 and Class 600 WCB) with Form III A certification for plant engineering departments. Full details at our IBR Valve Requirements guide.

Knife Gate Valves for Molasses and Thick Juice

Massecuite (mixture of crystals and mother liquor) and thick juice require a valve that can close through viscous, crystallizing media without packing. Knife gate valves with rubber-seated round disc (ORBINOX type) or through-conduit gate (for pigging) are the preferred choice. Sizes DN150–DN400, PN10/16. More in our Knife Gate Valve Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of valve is used for juice lines in sugar mills?

SS304 double beat (double seat) valves for DN100–DN200 juice lines are most common. Large diameter juice lines use rubber-seated concentric butterfly valves. Globe valves handle flow regulation in juice heating stations.

Are IBR-approved valves required in sugar mills?

Yes — any steam line above 1 kg/cm² pressure requires IBR-approved valves and fittings under the Indian Boilers Act. This includes steam supply to vacuum pans, evaporators, and juice heaters.

Can Supreme Valves supply urgent requirements during mill startup?

Yes — we maintain stock of common CI butterfly valves, WCB gate valves, and globe valves (Class 150 and Class 300) for rapid dispatch. Custom SS304 double beat valves require 4-6 weeks lead time.

Need Valves for a Sugar Mill or Juice Processing Plant?

Submit your valve list with size, material, and quantity. We supply IBR-approved steam valves, SS304 double beat valves, and CI butterfly valves with short delivery for mill turnarounds.
