Ball float (free-float) steam traps for continuous condensate discharge in high-capacity steam systems. SS316 ball float rises with condensate level to open the valve, modulating discharge rate proportional to load. No steam loss at light loads. WCB or SS316 body with Stellite-seated valve. Built-in thermostatic air vent. In-line repairable by removing the bolted cover. Suitable for process heating, power generation, refinery, and sugar industry applications up to 40 bar.
Technical Specifications
| Parameter | Specification |

| Pressure Rating | PN16 / PN40 / Class 150 / Class 300 -- up to 40 bar (580 psi) |
| End Connections | Threaded NPT / BSP, Socket Weld, Flanged RF per ASME B16.5 / EN 1092-1 |
| Body Material | ASTM A216 WCB / ASTM A351 CF8M (SS316) / ASTM A105 (forged carbon steel) |
| Float Material | SS316 seamless float (corrosion resistant) / WCB float (standard industrial) |
| Valve / Seat Material | SS316 with Stellite 6 overlay on seating surface -- ground and lapped to mirror finish |
| Cover / Bonnet | WCB or SS316 bolted cover with spiral wound SS316/graphite gasket |
| Operation Principle | Float-type -- SS316 ball float rises with condensate level, opening the valve proportionally to load |
| Discharge Mode | Continuous modulating -- condensate is discharged continuously at a rate proportional to the steam load, with no cycling |
| Back Pressure Tolerance | Up to 90% of inlet pressure (standard free-float trap) |
| Air Venting | Built-in thermostatic air vent (bi-metal or bimetal strip) automatically vents air and non-condensable gases on start-up |

| Alloy Steel | ASTM A217 WC6 body (high-temperature steam > 425 deg C on request) |
| Seat Overlay | Stellite 6 on SS316 valve and seat for erosion resistance at high-velocity condensate discharge |
Testing & Inspection
| Test | Requirement |
| Testing | Hydrostatic shell test 1.5 x WP per API 598 / EN 12266-1; Seat leakage test per API 598 / EN 12266-1; Functional test -- full stroke, torque; Material certificates per EN 10204 3.1 |
| Certification | ISO 9001:2015 QMS, EN 10204 3.1 material certificates, hydrostatic and seat test reports |
Applicable Standards
| Standard | Description |
| Design Standard | ISO 6552 (reference), BS 6023, manufacturer's standard |
Notes
- Operating pressure, condensate load, and back pressure must be specified by the purchaser for correct trap sizing and capacity verification.
- For superheated steam service (> 200 deg C superheat), contact engineering for special float and seat material selection.
- Install with body horizontal and cover upward for proper float movement and air vent function.
- For outdoor or freeze-risk installations, install a freeze-protection drain plug or use thermodynamic traps in parallel.
- All valves are manufactured by Supreme Valves India as per our standard specifications.
