Types of SS Flanges

WN

Weld Neck (WN)

Long tapered hub that provides a smooth transition from the pipe to the flange. Best choice for high-pressure, critical service, and thermal cycling applications. Butt-weld connection ensures maximum strength.

  • Best for high pressure service
  • Excellent for thermal cycling
  • Full bore flow path
SO

Slip On (SO)

Slides over the pipe and is welded both inside and outside diameter. Easier alignment and lower machining costs. Suitable for lower pressure applications and where frequent disassembly is needed.

  • Easy pipe alignment
  • Lower cost option
  • Good for frequent maintenance
SW

Socket Weld (SW)

Socket holds the pipe in position with a socket weld fillet. Provides a strong connection similar to butt-weld but with easier alignment. Typically used for small diameter high-pressure piping.

  • Strong welded connection
  • Good for small diameters
  • High pressure rated
TH

Threaded (TH)

Internal NPT/BSPT threads allow quick connection without welding. Ideal for low-pressure service, temporary installations, and areas where welding is not possible.

  • No welding required
  • Quick installation
  • Lower pressure ratings
BL

Blind (BL)

Solid plate flange used to close the end of a pipe or vessel. Can be removed for inspection or future extension. Used as termination points or for pressure testing.

  • Pipe termination
  • Pressure testing
  • Future expansion
LJ

Lap Joint (LJ)

Used with a stub end and backing ring. The flange slides over the stub end and is not welded to the pipe. Ideal for applications requiring frequent disassembly or where pipe alignment is critical.

  • Frequent disassembly
  • Pipe alignment flexibility
  • Lower bolting stress
OR

Orifice Flange

Specialized flange with a concentric or eccentric hole for flow measurement using an orifice plate. Available with pressure tapping points for differential pressure measurement.

  • Flow measurement
  • Differential pressure taps
  • Flow rate calculation

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of SS flanges are available?

We offer Weld Neck (WN), Slip On (SO), Socket Weld (SW), Threaded (TH), Blind (BL), Lap Joint (LJ), and Orifice Flanges. Each type serves different applications based on pressure requirements, ease of installation, and service conditions.

What is the size and pressure range for SS flanges?

SS flanges are available from 1/2 inch to 60 inch (NPS). Pressure ratings range from Class 150# to Class 2500# (PN20 to PN420). ASME B16.5 covers 1/2 to 24 inch sizes, while B16.47 Series A & B covers 26 to 60 inch sizes.

What face types are available?

Available face types include Raised Face (RF) with 1/16 or 1/4 inch raised, Ring Type Joint (RTJ) for high-pressure/temperature critical service, and Flat Face (FF) for low-pressure applications. RF is most common in general industrial service.

What stainless steel grades are available?

Grades include F304, F304L (standard and low-carbon), F316, F316L (molybdenum-added for corrosion resistance), F321, F347 (stabilized grades for high temperature), F310S (high-temperature), F51 (Duplex 2205), and F53 (Super Duplex 2507).

What standards do SS flanges comply with?

SS flanges comply with ASME B16.5 (1/2 to 24 inch), ASME B16.47 Series A & B (26 to 60 inch), and are manufactured from ASTM A182 forged materials. Testing includes hydrostatic shell testing, visual inspection, and dimensional checks as per applicable standards.
