The Supreme Valves 4-inch Class 1500 Trunnion Mounted Ball Valve is API 6D certified for high-pressure oil and gas, refinery, and petrochemical applications. The trunnion-mounted design provides stable ball support and reduced seating torque, enabling reliable operation at Class 1500 pressures.

The Carbon Steel ASTM A216 WCB body provides robust pressure containment at elevated temperatures, while the SS316L trim ensures corrosion resistance in demanding oil field environments. The RTJ (Ring Type Joint) flanged ends provide a metal-to-metal seal that is essential for high-pressure hazardous service where leakage cannot be tolerated.

What is a trunnion mounted ball valve and when is it used?

A trunnion mounted ball valve uses a mechanical mounting system where the ball is supported by trunnion bearings at the top and bottom of the valve, in addition to the stem connection. This design is used for larger valves (typically NPS 4 and above) and high-pressure applications where the seating loads would be too high for a floating ball design. The trunnion bearings reduce friction and wear on the seats, enabling reliable operation at very high pressures.

What is the difference between RF and RTJ flanges?

Raised Face (RF) flanges have a raised sealing surface and use a flat gasket. Ring Type Joint (RTJ) flanges have a recessed groove that houses a metal ring gasket. RTJ connections provide a metal-to-metal seal that is more reliable in high-pressure, high-temperature service and is commonly specified in oil and gas pipelines for Class 600 and higher pressures. The RTJ design prevents gasket blowout and is preferred for hazardous fluid service.

Why use SS316L trim in a trunnion ball valve?

SS316L trim (low carbon stainless steel, max 0.03% carbon) provides superior corrosion resistance compared to standard SS316. The low carbon content minimizes sensitization during welding and high-temperature service. For oil field applications involving sour gas (H2S), produced water, or crude oil with high chloride content, SS316L trim provides reliable service where standard materials might suffer from stress corrosion cracking.

Can the gear operator be replaced with an actuator?

Yes, the standard gear operator can be replaced with pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic actuators. The valve features ISO 5211 actuator mounting dimensions for direct actuator attachment. For oil and gas applications, spring-return pneumatic actuators are commonly specified for fail-safe operation, while electric actuators are preferred for remote locations with available power.
